Well, this past week we went fishing! Yes, I said FISHING! Although we don't fish much, we do play in the water from sun UP to sun DOWN! It's crazy fun!

Yes, yes it is true, the love of my life will be another year older on Sunday! So, I thought I'd post a few pictures from years past. (and when I say years, I mean Y-E-A-R-S past) Ron is the cute baby in the arms of Grandpa Folsom with his Mom and sister Sherrie in front. That scowl on his face--we still see to this day.

I believe this is about second grade . . . . . . I love this pic because of the glasses! Good thing the rims became smaller as he got older!

Let's just say it was 65 degrees the day we left. What the @#$% are we doing in snow? Gotta give a shout out to Wii as we gave the kids a Wii for Christmas . . . . LOVE it!

January is going to be a bit chaotic as well as I'm doing several tradeshows and I also start into my dance competition season!

Breaking Boundaries

Friday night, December 5th, was our annual Breaking Boundaries/AIDS awareness benefit. I've been a decorating fool for the past week and that is why I haven't been posting or reading much as of late. A formal, sit down, 5 course dinner for 300 people is NO SMALL TASK to pull off. The theme this year was "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and I have to say it was FAB-U-LOUS! We truely transformed an old drab building into a magical fairy world! I will post more pics as I receive them from those who actually had time to take pictures. It truely was an amazing evening of food and fun that was had by all.

Everyone should get out and help support a local non-profit organization. Get involved! It's wonderful especially in this economic downturn (can we call it a recession yet?).

Okay. So Prop 8 passed. Alright, I get it. 51% of you think that I am a second class citizen. Alright then. So my wife, uh I mean, roommate? Girlfriend? Special lady friend? You are gonna have to help me here because I am not sure what to call her now. Anyways, she and I are not allowed the same right under the state constitution as any other citizen. Okay, so I am taking that to mean I do not have to pay my state taxes because I am not a full citizen. I mean that would just be wrong, to make someone pay taxes and not give them the same rights, sounds sort of like that taxation without representation thing from the history books.

Okay, cool I don't mean to get too personal here but there is a lot I can do with the extra half a million dollars that I will be keeping instead of handing it over to the state of California. Oh, and I am sure Ellen will be a little excited to keep her bazillion bucks that she pays in taxes too. Wow, come to think of it, there are quite a few of us fortunate gay folks that will be having some extra cash this year. What recession? We're gay! I am sure there will be a little box on the tax forms now single, married, divorced, gay, check here if you are gay, yeah, that's not so bad. Of course all of the waiters and hairdressers and UPS workers and gym teachers and such, they won't have to pay their taxes either.

Gay people are born everyday. You will never legislate that away.
Oh and too bad California, I know you were looking forward to the revenue from all of those extra marriages. I guess you will have to find some other way to get out of the budget trouble you are in.

…Really?

When did it become okay to legislate morality? I try to envision someone reading that legislation "eliminates the right" and then clicking yes. What goes through their mind? Was it the frightening commercial where the little girl comes home and says, "Hi mom, we learned about gays in class today" and then the mother gets that awful worried look and the scary music plays? Do they not know anyone who is gay? If they do, can they look them in the face and say "I believe you do not deserve the same rights as me"? Do they think that their children will never encounter a gay person? Do they think they will never have to explain the 20% of us who are gay and living and working side by side with all the citizens of California?

I got news for them, someday your child is going to come home and ask you what a gay person is. Gay people are born everyday. You will never legislate that away.

I know when I grew up gay was a bad word. Homo, lezzie, faggot, dyke. Ignorance and fear ruled the day. There were so many "thems" back then. The blacks, the poor ... you know, "them". Then there was the immigrants. "Them.” Now the them is me.

I tell myself to take a breath, okay take another one, one of the thems made it to the top. Obama has been elected president. This crazy fearful insanity will end soon. This great state and this great country of ours will finally come to the understanding that there is no "them". We are one. We are united. What you do to someone else you do to yourself. That "judge not, lest ye yourself be judged" are truthful words and not Christian rhetoric.

Today the gay citizenry of this state will pick themselves up and dust themselves off and do what we have been doing for years. We will get back into it. We love this state, we love this country and we are not going to leave it. Even though we could be married in Mass. or Conn, Canada, Holland, Spain and a handful of other countries, this is our home. This is where we work and play and raise our families. We will not rest until we have the full rights of any other citizen. It is that simple, no fearful vote will ever stop us, that is not the American way.

Come to think of it, I should get a federal tax break too...

I'm Calling for a Constitutional Amendment--Are you With Me?

Since the country has taken to writing discrimination directly into our constitution, I feel that I have a few things that I think should be added. I'm sorry if I offend anyone (not really) but I have been offended (GET over IT!) before and you're going to be just fine. (loser)

If you are married and divorced more than 2 times--there should be a constitutional amendment banning you from marrying again. If you can't get it right the second time, sucks to be you! (I mean--really, we've given you 2 shots already!)

If you are really ugly--there should be a constitutional amendment banning you from going outside of your house. (We shouldn't have to look at that. What would our children think?)

Any online dating service--there should be a constitutional ban on every site as this is eroding the sanctity of dating! (watch out folks, I believe the LDS church will probably back this one!)

Are these frivolous amendments? I don't think so. What amendments would YOU like to make? Come on now . . . you can post them anonymously if you'd like . . . . but do tell what rules of frivolity you'd like to make up. Seems to be the trend!

I was tagged by Wendy at Pessimistically Optimistic Meanderings....by Wendy and now I have to come up with 6 random facts about me. I've been told I'm kind of an enigma and you all want to know MORE! I love the chance to talk about ME!

My husband and I have been together for 7 years! Our anniversary is September 19th!

I graduated from Raft River High School in '89! I lived in a little town called Yost, UT! You can actually see the edge of the earth from that house!

Dance is my passion--I owned a studio for many years and was a Drill Coach at South Fremont High School. You will probably get sick of my dancing posts.

I won my High School talent show ALL 4 YEARS! I danced my way into the record books.

I dropped my niece out of a MOVING car my Junior year in High School. She tells the story differently but I KNOW it knocked some sense into her!

We are the loving dads of 4 (count them) FOUR kids ages 16, 15, 9 and 7 . . . . . You've met two of them through this blog and we have two left to introduce you to!

1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms, just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

So, in closing, please stay away from those TALL people and their agenda. SCARY!

Gone Fishin'

Actually, we went fishing back in June. This is our annual fishing trip we take each year with the family to Twin Lakes near Preston, ID. We all look pretty stellar! This is our oldest daughter. She is 16 and she's NOT for sale! We've decided we're going to keep her around for a while.

She's a great student, great kid and a great sister. (her brother is laughing hysterically) And YES, it's a natural red, not from a bottle. She get's her good looks, OBVIOUSLY, from her ever-so-handsome dads.
